PVM stands for Proteins, Vitamins & Minerals. The company was established in the late 1960’s as a result of intensive scientific research undertaken by the National Institute of Food Research of the CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research).
In 1968 PVM Nutritional Sciences became one of the first companies to manufacture clinical nutritional products to combat severe malnutrition.
PVM produced the World’s Original Energy Bar®, based on an earlier product devised to provide essential energy and nutrition for military personnel in combat. Military personnel in combat named it “Tarzan bars.”
Since its inception hundreds of millions of the World’s Original Energy Bar® have been produced.
PVM’s multi-disciplinary R&D team consist of physiologists, biochemists, dietitians, food scientists, sport scientists, physical therapists and medical specialists.
PVM has also developed numerous products for other companies, one of which is well known world-wide.
All products are produced in our own plant. PVM holds FSSC 22000 Food Safety Certification including the new Food Fraud clause, implemented under additional FSSC requirements.
Over the years, PVM have worked with and fueled a plethora of elite athletes such as Olympic gold medalists, top-ranking track and field stars, tri-athletes, cycling teams & individuals, world champion boxers, numerous national sports teams, trail runners, marathon runners, hockey players, netball players, tennis players, cricketers, canoeists, rowers, motocross, Ironman and adventure racers.
PVM guarantees that all our products are of the highest quality and that all ingredients used are deemed legal substances by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) In our 50 years of existence, not a single athlete has been tested positive for prohibited substances due to PVM product usage, nor have we made any unsubstantiated or misleading claims.
Due to a lack of efficacy and safety concerns PVM does not produce thermogenic weight loss formulas (often called “Fat Burners”).
In 2007 PVM became one of the first companies subcontracted by a professional franchise to condition rugby players competing in the International Super Rugby Competition.
In 2011 PVM teamed up with Sport Science Lab (SSL) in California, USA and also opened SSL South Africa. Sport Science Lab is leaders in the field of rehabilitation and performance training.
