PVM’s Hypertrophy range has been carefully developed and refined over decades to meet the specific nutrient and energy demands of resistance training where the glycolytic system dominates.
To gain muscle mass, athletes should engage in a very specific type of resistance training called hypertrophy training. The purpose of hypertrophy training is to damage the muscles. During the recovery phase the muscles are repaired by synthesizing new muscle tissue which leads to the muscle cell volume growth. Hypertrophy training is a structural and not a functional form of training. We do not recommend hypertrophy training for growing adolescents nor for beginner athletes. We do not recommend hypertrophy training during competition phases.
Appropriate synchronisation and periodisation of training and nutrition enhances the effects of resistance training to ensure maximal gains.
Specific nutrient intake before, during and after training/competition can either enhance or negate the positive effects of training.
Therefore, the amount, timing and composition of nutritional intake (chrono-nutrition) before, during and after resistance training is crucial to increase the volume of training (sets x reps) through sustained force production , maximally stimulating the whole muscle to complete exhaustion.

The main goals of incorporating our hypertrophy range during training are to:
- Optimise the anaerobic glycolytic and lactic acid system.
- Sufficient aerobic glycolytic capacity.
- Ensure biomechanical efficiency.
- Maintain a high volume of repetitions to full exhaustion.
- Facilitate daily increased energy requirements (500-2000 extra kcal per day).

Increasing muscle mass requires energy for anabolic metabolic processes. Appropriate and adequate fluid and nutritional intake during physical activity is essential for optimal athletic performance and aims to increase the workload that can be sustained at various exercise intensities. It provides energy, helps to stabilise blood sugar levels and aids with hydration and the replacement of electrolytes lost through sweat, which is essential to maintain high power output. Specific nutrients like certain peptides and ergogenic aids (like caffeine and carbohydrates) may improve performance. Exogenous carbohydrate intake also spares glycogen, that is the preferred source of energy during high-intensity training.

The intake of specific nutrients after training have a significant impact on the ability to recover for subsequent training bouts and to shift the metabolism from a catabolic to anabolic state. Adequate and specific carbohydrate and protein intake in specific ratio’s, increases glycogen replenishment. Fluid and electrolyte intake ensure the replenishment of fluid and electrolytes lost in sweat. Optimal muscle protein synthesis to increase lean muscle mass only occurs if the carbohydrate stores (glycogen) in the muscle is replenished.
